About me.
I have a hard time defining myself. Currently, you might say I’m “retired.” Not sure exactly what that means in my life. So I’ll back up.
Quite some time ago I grew up on a farm in rural Nebraska, attended a one room country school through sixth grade, went on to high school and later graduated with a couple degrees from the state university. After college I married a guy who remarkably I’ve been with for nearly 50 years and in the process raised two daughters. I started my “career” at the university where I graduated. My husband was, and still is, a banker.
When our oldest daughter was still quite small we decided to follow that American Dream of owning our own business. My husband took the lead since banking had the potential to be a bit more lucrative than a government job.
The outcome resulted in a move out of the urban college town to a community of 200 people where we bought the smallest bank in the state. Yes, that can actually be done, even today. Nebraska still has an abundance of small community banks. We continue in the banking business to this day. I serve on the Bank’s board of directors, and even worked at the Bank for a short time.
A few years ago I had sort of an epiphany (or some would call it a brain freeze) and decided it was time to give back in the line of public service. So I ran for our state’s Legislature and I won. That’s a story in itself.
So here I am. I was term-limited out of my legislative seat, our son-in-law runs the bank, so I guess I’m retired. But I’m not tired, and I’m certainly not ready to fade away. In fact I’m ready to start anew with something. That’s why I started this blog. I believe I have a few things to say, some ideas to share and am ready to unlock new opportunities.
Quotes that speak to me.
